Nigerian Army Rescues Six Kidnap Victims in Kogi as Troops Intensify Operations Against Bandits

Troops of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have successfully rescued six kidnapped victims from bandits operating in the Ejiba and Saminaka forests in Kogi State’s Yagba East Local Government Area.

The Brigade’s spokesperson, Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, confirmed the development on Tuesday in Lokoja, describing the mission as part of the Army’s ongoing efforts to curb banditry and kidnapping across Kogi.

According to Abdullahi, the coordinated operation involved synchronized air and ground offensives, with additional support from a Nigeria Police aircraft, leading to the interception of the victims. He said the criminals abandoned their captives due to sustained military pressure.

“Five of the rescued individuals have been reunited with their families in Egbe and Ejiba communities, while the sixth is currently receiving medical care,” he stated.

The Nigerian Army assured Kogi residents of its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, emphasizing plans to intensify patrols, dominate forest routes, and dismantle identified criminal hideouts.

The rescue operation comes barely days after bandits attacked a Cherubim and Seraphim church during a Sunday service in Ejiba, abducting the pastor and several worshippers — an incident that heightened tension in the affected communities.

Security forces say operations will continue until criminal elements are denied freedom of action across the state.
