A Nigerian caregiver, Oghenemaro Dave Ejerua, has been arrested and charged with seven counts of assault in Toronto, Canada, following allegations of abuse involving residents of a group home for vulnerable adults in the city’s east end.
Toronto Police confirmed that the 38-year-old suspect was taken into custody last week after an investigation into multiple alleged assaults at the care facility. The incidents reportedly occurred between November 1 and November 30, 2025, during which residents were allegedly assaulted on several occasions.

Police said officers first responded to a complaint on the morning of December 10, 2025, at a location near Sibley Avenue and Dentonia Park Avenue in East Toronto. Following the report, investigators launched a full inquiry and issued a public appeal to help identify and locate a suspect connected to the case.
In a statement released on Monday, January 12, Toronto Police announced that Ejerua had been arrested and formally charged with seven counts of assault. He is expected to appear in court at a later date, while police emphasised that the allegations have not yet been proven in court.
The case has sparked renewed concern over the safety of vulnerable adults in care homes, amid ongoing calls by advocacy groups for stricter oversight, improved staff screening and stronger enforcement measures across Canada’s caregiving sector.
Toronto Police said investigations are ongoing and urged anyone with additional information to come forward as authorities continue efforts to protect residents in care facilities.
