“With pain in our hearts, we regret to announce the sudden demise of our beloved sister and daughter, Esther Thomas (A.K.A Sunshine), who passed away on January 9, 2026, after an unsuccessful surgery,” the statement read.

Madu disclosed that Sunshine first complained of severe stomach pain on December 28, 2025, which worsened over the following days. She was subsequently diagnosed with fibroids after undergoing medical tests.
According to him, Sunshine was initially admitted to Orchid General Hospital, where she was placed on medication. However, due to the ongoing doctors’ strike, she was reportedly only receiving pain relief, as no specialist was available to carry out definitive treatment.
Madu said she was transferred to another hospital on January 2, 2026, after he noticed the absence of doctors on duty at the initial facility. Medical care continued at the new hospital using her previous scan results.
As her condition deteriorated, doctors recommended immediate surgery. Although the procedure was described as successful, Sunshine later developed post-operative complications.
“According to the doctor, the surgery was successful, but she later developed complications that led to her death,” Madu stated.
Sunshine’s death has sparked an outpouring of grief across social media, with fans and colleagues mourning the loss of the vibrant Nigerian influencer.
