Nigerian Lecturer Sacked by Ugandan University Amid Sex-for-Marks Scandal

Nafiu Lukman Abiodun, a Nigerian scholar who lectures at Kabale University in Uganda, has been sacked after he was found guilty of sexually harassing some female students.

According to The Independent, an Ugandan Newspaper, Abiodun, who, before the sacking, headed the school’s Department of Economics and Statistics, was labelled a sexual predator who constantly demanded sex from female students in exchange for marks.

It was alleged that the Nigerian lecturer, who is also the director of research at the university, failed female students whenever they refused his advances.

Abiodun was caught after some of the female students recorded him while demanding for sex on the phone.

In a letter addressed to Abiodun, and signed by Johnson Munono Byaryantuma, the university’s secretary, investigations carried out by the school found him guilty of sexual harassment, failure to follow examination regulations and professional guidance.

“I regret to inform you that the Appointments Board of Kabale University Under Min.598160/AB/21122 found you guilty of sexual harassment, failure to follow examination regulations, and professional negligence. The board therefore directed you be severely reprimanded and your interdiction be lifted,” reads the letter dated November 11.

“The board further resolved not to renew your contract as a senior lecturer of statistics when it expires on 11 November 2022. You are therefore required to hand over all university property in your possession to the dean of the faculty of Economics and Management Science in the presence of the financial auditor.”

On his part, Abiodun said he had not received any letter to show that his services were no longer required by the university. He also dismissed the accusations levelled against him but declined to discuss the details.FIJ
