Nigerian Man Drowns to Death in New York River

Ismaila Olaniyan Olawale, a 42-year-old Nigerian man, died in a tragic drowning incident which occurred in the Hudson River, New York, over the weekend.

According to nj.com, an online news outlet based in New Jersey, Ismaila fell overboard while trying to dock his boat near a cliff and drowned in the Hudson River.

The Palisades Interstate Parkway Police said the man was among a group of people who had been out on the water and were returning to the marina where the vessel was docked.

Eyewitnesses who saw the man fall into the river quickly went under the water to save him, but they were unsuccessful.

His body was recovered by divers from the New York Police Department harbour unit about an hour after he plunged into the river. He was pronounced dead by medical examiners shortly after.

The New York State Police are still investigating the incident.
