Nigerian student beaten to death over phone theft
Tragedy struck at one of the universities in the country as a student met his demise at the hands of his colleagues, reportedly for stealing a mobile phone.
Sources within Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Oyo, disclosed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the victim, identified as Alex, faced a brutal beating by fellow students around 10 p.m. on Friday, after being accused of pilfering a phone and transferring funds from it.
Disturbing video clips obtained by NAN depict a harrowing scene of one student wielding a cane while another urges him to intensify the assault.
The campus community was shaken by the revelation of the stolen phone and the subsequent monetary transfer, fueling the rage of the assailants.
The unfortunate incident escalated to the point where the victim was ejected from the hostel on Friday night, only to be discovered lifeless early the next morning.

In response, university authorities have taken decisive action, expelling the students involved in what has been described as a “fatal altercation.”
Contrary to circulating rumours, the university administration vehemently denies any association with cult activities, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining a campus free from such societal ills.
According to Mr. Femi Atoyebi, the university’s Public Relations Officer, the expelled students succumbed to their emotions instead of reporting the theft to the appropriate authorities, leading to the tragic outcome.
Atoyebi assured the public of the institution’s cooperation with law enforcement agencies, emphasizing their dedication to upholding justice and ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment.
“The university remains resolute in its pursuit of a peaceful and godly atmosphere for learning,” he concluded.
