Troops of the Nigerian Army were on Monday engaged in a gunfight with Boko Haram insurgents in a village of Borno State.
TheCable reported that the battle took place at Tamsukawu in the Kaga Local Government Area of the state, quoting a military source.
The source said the insurgents invaded the town and had planned to attack a military formation in the evening, but that they met stiff resistance from the troops.
No figure of casualties was given as the fight was said to be raging as of 1pm when the report was filed in.
The air task force, rapid response squad Team as well as the troops from super camp, Ngamdu, were said to have been promptly deployed in the scene of the attack.
The Federal Government had recently said it was winning the war against insurgency in the North-East.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, had said in an interview that the surrendering of Boko Haram insurgents showed that peace was returning to the war-ravaged region.
