Nigerian woman admires polygamy, seeks co-wife for husband

Nigerian woman admires polygamy, seeks co-wife for husband

In an unusual social media post that has sparked widespread conversation, Buithat Lawal, a Nigerian biochemist, announced she is looking for another wife for her husband.

The post, shared on her Facebook page on Wednesday, has since gone viral, with many reacting to her bold and unconventional stance on polygamy.

Lawal, who openly supports the practice of polygamy, expressed concerns about how some men approach it, highlighting that she seeks a co-wife who would be kind, loving, wise, and possess good character—qualities she believes are essential for harmony in a polygamous relationship.

She clarified that her intention is not to welcome a co-wife who would cause jealousy or conflict, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect and understanding within the marriage.

“Hey loves, I’m smiling as I write this. Yesterday, I made a post about wanting a co-wife — someone to join me in this journey of life with my husband.

“I noticed a lot of people thought I wasn’t serious, maybe even joked about it. But deep down, I meant every word.

“I’ve always admired polygamy. It’s never been an issue for me. What I do take issue with is how many of our men go about it, lacking fairness and wisdom.”

Buithat also explained how her views have grown over time.

She said, “Growth changes a person. As I’ve grown, so have my thoughts. I’ve always told my husband, if he wants to take another wife, I support it but he must involve me fully in the process.”

“No, I’m not looking for a jealous or manipulative co-wife. I want someone kind, wise, filled with love, and grounded in good character.”

Buithat also shared her hopes for a peaceful home where love and trust are present, saying, “I want the freedom to travel for work knowing my children are safe and cared for. I want to be able to love and care for another child of my husband’s — not born by me — with sincerity, and knowing their mother trusts me completely.

“I have a deep vision of what polygamy can be, but the real questions are: Can my husband be truly just? And can the new wife be spiritually grounded?

“Life really isn’t meant to be this hard. I just needed to share my thoughts on polygamy and what it means to me,” She wrote.
