Nigerians demand sacking of Finidi George after Super Eagles loss to Benin Republic
Nigerians on social media app, X, have demanded the immediate sacking of the country’s National Football Team Coach, Finidi George, over the team’s poor performance.
The Super Eagles lost their 2026 World Cup Qualifying Match against 97th globally rated Benin Republic on Monday.
The match ended 2-1 in defeat of the Nigerian side.
The team has not won any match out of the four matches played so far at the qualification stage.
A commentator, Samstar said, “Finidi George is just a clueless coach with a very big head. Please sack him now and also jail him for stressing all Nigerians #SoarSuperEagles.”
Another analyst, Buchi Laba regretted being among those who called for George’s appointment few months ago.
He wrote: “I pushed heavily for Finidi George to get the job. I’m a very stupid person. Never ever take any advice coming from me. I no get sense.”

“Now we begin to do calculations to qualify for World Cup. We couldn’t win our home games, we are still loosing to Benin on a neutral ground.
“Finidi George, thanks for your services, pls resign,” he noted.
Mashood Abiola wrote: “He should just resign. Obviously, he can’t handle the team. In a must win game, I don’t know why you have to bench your most prolific attacker. Secondly, the defence line was too porous. It will be difficult for us to qualify this way. We have the players, but no coach.”
