Nigeria’s Woes: There is nothing much anyone can do – Buhari

Nigeria’s Woes: There is nothing much anyone can do – Buhari

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has lauded the performance of his successor, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that Tinubu has performed admirably in his nine months in office.

During a meeting with the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) management team in Daura, Katsina State, Buhari remarked on the challenges of governing Nigeria, describing it as a complex task with limited solutions.

Responding to the criticisms faced by Tinubu, particularly regarding economic policies such as fuel subsidy removal and exchange rate unification, which have led to inflation and economic challenges, Buhari urged Nigerians to endure the hardships and support the current administration’s initiatives.

“I appreciate your visit. Tinubu has performed commendably. Nigeria is indeed complex, and there are limitations to what anyone can achieve,” Buhari stated.

In his response, Adeniyi expressed gratitude to the former president for supporting the NCS Act 2023, which expanded the agency’s authority to enhance revenue generation and facilitate trade, contributing to Nigeria’s economic growth.

Adeniyi also mentioned President Tinubu’s directive to return seized food-carrying trucks at the borders to traders, with the expectation that they would reinvest in the Nigerian market.

It’s worth noting that Buhari had previously acknowledged the challenges of governing Nigeria. In a November 2023 interview with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), he remarked on the difficulty of ruling a populace keenly aware of their rights and constantly scrutinizing leadership decisions.
