NLC planned strike, continuation of Obi political campaign – Omokri
A public affairs analyst, Reno Omokri, says the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) led by Joe Ajero does not have any moral justification to declare a nationwide strike over the removal of fuel subsidy by President Bola Tinubu.
The NLC on Friday gave the Federal Government till Wednesday this week to order a reversal of the pump price of petrol to N184 or face a nationwide workers’ strike and protest.
Tinubu had said in his inaugural speech that the era of fuel subsidy was over. This prompted oil marketers to immediately jack up the petrol price to at least N488 per litre.

But Omokri wondered why the NLC could be calling for a strike over a policy it supported Peter Obi of the Labour Party to implement immediately if elected.
The ex-aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan tweet read, “You cannot have a Nigerian Labour Congress whose executive members endorsed Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate, asking Nigerians to go on strike because President Tinubu has refused to reverse fuel subsidy removal, which is exactly what Peter Obi said he would do IMMEDIATELY after he was sworn in.
“If the NLC wants enough credibility to mobilise Nigerians to join their strike, they should first purge themselves of their National Executive Council members who endorsed Peter Obi. Until they do that, this their planned nationwide strike will look like it is a continuation of Peter Obi’s POLITICAL campaign.”
