NLC S’West demands over N700,000 minimum wage, TUC wants N447,000
The Nigeria Labour Congress has put forward a demand of over N700,000 as a new national minimum wage for workers in the South-West.
The Trade Union Congress (TUC) on the other hand proposed N447, 000 for consideration as the new minimum wage.
Chairman of the Lagos State Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Mrs. Funmi Sessi made the over N700,000 recommendation to the government on Thursday.
Sessi presented this in the memorandum submitted at the South-West, Geo-Political Zone, Public Hearings, organised by the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage.
The hearing chaired by the Minister of Finance, and Coordinating Minister for Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, was held at the LTV Ground, Agindingbi, Ikeja, Lagos.
Sessi said the review had become expedient in view of the rising cost of living in the country.
The TUC on the other hand proposed N447,000 as the new minimum wage.
The unions described the position of some governors’ inability to pay the minimum wage as unacceptable.
