Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe is set to receive a refund of N100 million in bail money after he stood as surety for Nnamdi Kanu, the wanted leader of the Indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB.
Abaribe, who was the principal surety to Kanu is set to possibly apply for a refund of his N100M forfeited to the federal government when Kanu jumped bail.
The embattled secessionist leader jumped bail since 2019 but was rearrested on Sunday and will appear in Federal High Court for a continuation of his criminal trial on terrorism charges.
Abaribe had forfeited the huge sum due to his inability to produce Kanu in court to face the criminal trial. The Abia North senator was granted an opportunity to produce Kanu five times but could not meet up.
Abaribe had prayed the court to hold the federal government responsible for the escape and spare him from forfeiting the bail bonds. Presiding Judge, Justice Binta Nyako rejected the prayers and ordered him to forfeit the bail bond.
