NNPP wants Zulum election cancelled, demands fresh gov poll
The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) is seeking the cancellation of Borno State governorship election held on March 18 on the grounds that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) omitted the name of Umar Alkali, its candidate and the party logo on the list of contestants.
It stated this in a petition submitted to the Borno Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
The party also sought an order directing INEC to conduct a fresh governorship election in Borno that would include Alkali as the NNPP candidate.
Secretary of the tribunal, Mr Taiwo Adediji, confirmed that the tribunal received 10 petitions for the National Assembly election comprising three for the Senate and seven for the House of Representatives.
“We also have two petitions from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates in Askira/Uba and Kala-Balge State Constituency challenging the victory of APC candidates in the areas,” Adediji said.
Earlier, Prof Jude Tsammani Rabo, INEC’s returning officer, declared Babagana Zulum the winner of the Borno governorship election.
According to him, the APC candidate polled majority votes and satisfied the requirement of the law.
He polled 45,543 votes to defeat Mohammed Jajari of the PDP, who scored 82,147 votes.
