Nollywood actress appeals for support as recurring cancer spreads to bones

Nollywood actress Cynthia Anijekwu has made an emotional appeal to Nigerians and well-wishers for financial assistance after revealing that she is battling cancer for the second time, with the disease now spreading to her bones.

In a video shared on social media on Tuesday, the actress disclosed that she was first diagnosed with cancer in 2023. She said she underwent surgery and chemotherapy after the diagnosis, and although the treatment initially appeared successful, the disease later returned.

According to Anijekwu, recent medical examinations revealed that the cancer has spread to her bones, making her condition more complex and significantly increasing the cost of treatment.

She explained that doctors have recommended radiation therapy and another surgery as part of her ongoing treatment, adding that the monthly cost of her medical care is now about ₦600,000.

Speaking emotionally in the video, the actress said she has spent several months moving in and out of hospitals as she continues her fight against the illness.

“I had cancer in 2023. I did my surgery and took chemotherapy, but later it came back again. I’ve been in and out of the hospital. The doctor recently told me it has reached my bones, and the treatment is now much more expensive,” she said.

Anijekwu also disclosed that the disease has affected both of her breasts and caused swelling in one of her hands, making her health challenges even more difficult.

Appealing directly to members of the public, she pleaded for financial assistance to enable her continue treatment.

“I need to live. I need to survive. I’m asking Nigerians to please help me. Anyone that can help, please, I need help.

“Even my hands have swollen. The cancer has affected both breasts. I need to live. Please help me. I need to survive.

“Your one naira and your two naira can add up to something reasonable for me to get the proper treatment for this cancer. I’m begging you, please help me,” she said.

The actress noted that the financial burden of managing the illness has become overwhelming for her family, prompting her decision to seek public support.

Before her health challenges became public, Anijekwu built a career in Nollywood, featuring in a number of English- and Igbo-language productions.

While there is no widely documented record of her appearing in major blockbuster productions, she has remained active in the industry and is now receiving public attention following her emotional appeal for support.

Her story has drawn sympathy from fans and members of the public, with many expressing hope that she will receive the financial assistance needed to continue her treatment and recover.

“We Don’t Want to See You in Edo Again” — Gov Okpebholo’s Aide Declares War on Davido

The Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media to Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, Apostle Kassy Chukwu, has declared that Nigerian Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, is no longer welcome to perform in Edo State for the remainder of the governor’s tenure. The warning comes amid an escalating public feud between the singer and the governor, triggered by Davido’s involvement in the recent Osun State governorship election and his refusal to apologise for mocking the governor’s academic credentials.

Chukwu made the declaration in a video shared on YouTube by Peniel TV International, Benin City, on Thursday, where he announced that Davido had been “banned” from staging performances anywhere in Edo State. “You have been banned from coming to Edo State to perform. We don’t want to see you in Edo again,” Chukwu said in the video. The governor’s aide accused the singer of making disrespectful remarks about Governor Okpebholo and his family, maintaining that Davido would not be welcome in the state for the remaining years of the administration.

Chukwu also claimed that some youths in Edo were angered by Davido’s comments and warned that the singer could face a hostile reception if he returned to the state, including through the airport. “Edo youths are angry. They said if they catch you again, nobody should bring Davido to come and perform in any place again in Edo State,” Chukwu said. In more graphic terms, the aide stated, “If we catch you, if we see you for airports, go tell boys make them use slap take remove your teeth for you.”

The dispute traces back to the build-up to the August 15 Osun State governorship election, in which Governor Okpebholo, a member of the All Progressives Congress, publicly criticised Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke, Davido’s uncle, while campaigning in the state. Okpebholo had questioned Adeleke’s leadership style, specifically mocking his frequent dancing. “Before somebody signs paper, he will dance. Are you not tired? For four years, this man has been dancing. Before he takes breakfast, before he drinks tea, he will dance,” Okpebholo had said.

Davido, who had been actively involved in his uncle’s re-election campaign, responded by sharing what appeared to be Governor Okpebholo’s West African Examinations Council (WAEC) result on his Instagram Story. The purported result showed several grades, including D7 in Commerce, Economics, English Language and Christian Religious Knowledge, E8 in Government and C5 in Mathematics. The authenticity of the document has not been independently established.

The singer later defended his decision during an interview with News Central, insisting that he had no reason to apologise. “I’m not going to apologise. I didn’t do anything wrong. I was just telling people of the state the results their governor has,” Davido said. He also questioned why Governor Okpebholo had travelled from Edo to Osun to attack his uncle during the election campaign, stating, “First of all, you were not even elected; you were selected. You don’t know what it means to win an election.” Davido further expressed concern for the governor’s children, saying, “I feel so bad for his kids.”

Chukwu, while defending the governor, accused Davido of crossing the line with his comments and social media activity. He also criticised the singer’s associate, Israel DMW, whom he blamed for allegedly encouraging Davido to criticise the governor. The aide further pushed back on the authenticity of the shared document, describing it as allegedly manipulated, and cautioned Davido against making similar posts targeting the governor in the future.

It was not immediately clear whether the statement represented an official position of the Edo State Government or was a personal response by the governor’s aide. The video of Chukwu’s comments has since circulated widely online, adding fresh attention to the ongoing back-and-forth between the singer and the Edo State government, with no indication yet that either side intends to de-escalate the dispute.

Nobody Should Invite My Husband Without Inviting Me — Jarvis Issues Stern Warning

Nigerian TikTok sensation Amadou Elizabeth, popularly known as Jarvis, has issued a firm and unambiguous warning to event organizers, brands, and friends against inviting her husband, streamer Habeeb Hamzat (known as Peller), to nightclubs or social outings without including her. The content creator made her position known during a TikTok live session, where she advised married men against attending clubs unaccompanied and set clear rules for anyone seeking to engage her husband socially. Her comments come shortly after billionaire businessman Mansa extended an invitation to Peller to attend a nightclub, an action that appears to have triggered Jarvis’s public declaration. The TikToker’s warning has since sparked widespread discussion across social media, with many weighing in on the boundaries she has set for her marriage.

Speaking passionately during her live session, Jarvis expressed her disapproval of married men attending nightclubs alone, describing such environments as unsuitable for solo husbands. She argued that numerous things happen in club settings and suggested that men in marriages should attend with their wives. “It’s not good for a married man to go to club alone. A lot of things go on in there. Go with your wife, your wife can twerk and do other things too,” she said. The content creator further revealed her personal dislike for club environments, describing them as places where many things take place. “Please, it is not actually good. Club is another world; I don’t really like it. A lot of things go on in there. I will not advise a married man to go there alone. You can go there with your wife. Have fun with your wife. Your wife can twerk too,” she added.

Jarvis specifically warned those who had been reaching out to Peller directly, making it clear that any invitation meant for her husband must also include her. She stressed that the two of them would decide together whether to accept or decline any social invitation, emphasizing that their marriage is now a partnership. “I am warning you people now, nobody should invite my husband without inviting me to a club party or anywhere. We the couples will decide if we will come or not, or if the wife will come or not,” she stated. The TikToker also urged brands and promoters to view her and Peller as a unit moving forward. Although they remain separate brands professionally, she insisted that their marital status should be respected in social invitations. “If you’re inviting my husband to club, invite both couples. Me and my husband are now one. We’ll now decide whether the wife will come or not. That is our decision to make,” she said. Jarvis further advised event organizers to consider alternatives such as dinner outings if the planned club event would take place late at night, demonstrating a willingness to compromise while maintaining her boundaries.

To smooth over the situation following Jarvis’s public warning, billionaire Mansa joined her live session and showered her with five “Lion” virtual gifts on TikTok as an apology. The gesture appears to have helped calm tensions, though Jarvis maintained her stance on the matter, making it clear that her position was non-negotiable moving forward. The gesture from Mansa was widely seen as an attempt to mend fences after the controversy, and it generated additional buzz on social media, with many users commenting on the unusual way the billionaire chose to apologize.

Jarvis and Peller, both prominent content creators, recently tied the knot in a highly publicised traditional wedding ceremony on August 8, 2026. During the ceremony, Peller made an emotional vow to build their marriage on equality, declaring, “We are one. Whatever is mine is yours. I promise to do 50/50 with you; I don’t care what people say.” The couple’s marriage continues to attract significant attention across social media, with nearly every update about their relationship generating substantial public reaction. Peller previously addressed criticism about their relationship, noting that some people had questioned their age difference and mocked him for being “just 21.” Jarvis’s warning also comes after Peller recently shared a disturbing encounter he had with her following his return from a club at 4am, which has prompted discussions about the couple’s relationship dynamics and Jarvis’s expectations as a newly married woman. That incident appears to have reinforced her determination to set clear boundaries early in their marriage.

The TikToker’s declaration has sparked mixed reactions across social media platforms. Some users have supported her stance on married couples attending social events together, praising her for setting clear boundaries early in her marriage. Others have questioned her approach to managing her husband’s professional engagements, arguing that such public warnings could affect Peller’s career opportunities and potentially harm his relationships with brands and promoters. However, Jarvis has remained firm on her position, insisting that she and Peller would decide together whether to accept any invitation. Her warning has also prompted broader conversations about marriage dynamics, respect, and the importance of setting boundaries in relationships, with many social media users weighing in on both sides of the debate. As the couple continues to navigate life in the public eye, it remains to be seen how brands and event organizers will respond to Jarvis’s demands, and whether her stance will influence how other public figures approach similar situations in their own marriages.

Veteran Nollywood Actor Ogogo Battles Stage-4 Cancer as Daughters Beg for Treatment

The daughters of veteran Yoruba Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, have made an emotional public appeal for urgent medical assistance, revealing that their 66-year-old father is battling stage-four cancer and that hospitals have refused to continue his treatment .

The daughters of veteran Yoruba Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, have made an emotional public appeal for urgent medical assistance, revealing that their 66-year-old father is battling stage-four cancer and that hospitals have refused to continue his treatment. Lima and Kira Taiwo shared tearful videos on Instagram on Monday, August 17, 2026, pleading with Nigerians, well-wishers, and medical professionals with experience in cancer treatment to help save their father’s life. The family stressed that they are not soliciting financial donations but are desperately seeking medical intervention to give the veteran actor another chance at life.

In a video posted on her Instagram page, Lima struggled to hold back tears as she appealed for help, saying her father’s condition had deteriorated significantly and that hospitals had refused to treat him. She said: “Hello everybody, good evening. I’m here to ask for help from my daddy. He has cancer and it’s really, really bad. And the hospitals are refusing to treat him. At least, please, give this man a chance. Nobody wants to do anything.” Lima revealed that the family only became aware of the severity of Ogogo’s condition about three weeks ago, adding that his physical appearance had not initially reflected how serious his illness was. “You see him, you can’t even know that something is wrong that bad. It’s just starting to show. We didn’t even know until like three weeks ago,” she said. She reiterated that the appeal was strictly for medical assistance and not financial donations, urging anyone with connections to healthcare providers willing to take on her father’s case to reach out to the family. “Please, I’m begging you. If you know somebody that knows somebody that will be willing to treat him, anything, we’re willing to try anything. We’re not here to ask for money. Nobody’s here to ask for money,” she said. She also acknowledged the support the family had received from a relative, saying he had stepped in during the crisis. “My big uncle has helped a lot. He has been of great help. Like, nobody even knew that he would show up for us this way,” she said. The visibly distraught daughter ended the video with a tearful plea, saying she could not bear to watch her father die.

In a separate Instagram video, Kira confirmed that her father’s cancer had reached stage four and disclosed that the hospital treating him had indicated that it could no longer administer chemotherapy. “Hello everyone, I’m here for my daddy. He has cancer and is in stage 4. The hospital is saying that they cannot treat him again, like they can’t give him chemo again,” she said. Kira appealed to anyone who could provide cancer treatment for the actor, including chemotherapy or herbal remedies, to contact the family, and expressed gratitude to Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, for his significant financial support towards their father’s treatment. “And I really, really, really love to appreciate Senator Yayi. He has been the one helping us, he has been the one footing the bills,” she said. Kira became emotional while describing her father’s condition, saying she had never seen him in such pain and revealing that Ogogo had expressed fear of dying. “He’s saying that he doesn’t want to die. Please, I’ve never seen my daddy in that kind of pain before,” she said.

The family revealed that Ogogo’s stomach is swollen and that he has been crying from the pain. According to reports, the family is open to exploring both medical and traditional treatment options. Kira stated: “What I’m here for is that if you can treat my daddy, if you can start chemo for him, whether it’s medical or herbs, please, I’m begging you, guys, I’m begging you, any help, anything, anybody that you know that can treat cancer, please, please, I’m begging you.” She urged anyone who knew a medical professional or facility capable of treating cancer to contact her, her sister, or the actor directly via Instagram.

Dr. Olusina Ajidahun, a prominent medical doctor, has cautioned against the public narrative surrounding the actor’s case, warning that the daughters’ claims that hospitals “refused to treat” their father could unfairly incite anger toward healthcare workers. He explained that when patients have stage-four cancer and chemotherapy and other therapies have been exhausted, the appropriate course is palliative care—managing symptoms and ensuring quality of life rather than curative treatment. He described the daughter’s remark as “a dangerous statement” that could set the tides against the medical team and put a bad label on health care workers. The doctor also advised against seeking herbal cures for advanced cancer, stating: “There are no herbs that will treat a stage 4 cancer. These concoctions will end up damaging more organs and causing more complications. You’d end up wasting money and causing more problems.”

Hassan, 66, is a veteran of the Nigerian film industry with a career spanning more than four decades. He has featured in more than 300 movies and is one of the most recognisable faces in Yoruba cinema. He began his acting career in 1981 after working as a mechanic and later left his job with the water corporation in 1994 to pursue acting full-time. Over the years, he has appeared in numerous films, including AtitebiAgbelebuAgbo-OdajuDanfo DriverAmerahAníkúlápóBank Alert, and IGE. His most recent film appearance was in Oye Agba, where he starred alongside Olaniyan Tosin and Jaye Kuti. Hassan had previously made headlines after revealing he battled a “strange sickness” for seven years, diagnosed as chronic ulcer, during which he “couldn’t eat anything except pap” and started “vomiting blood for seven months.”

As of the time of filing this report, the actor’s management and family were yet to issue an official statement detailing the specific hospital, diagnosis, or type of cancer involved. The family has continued to appeal for urgent medical intervention as Ogogo’s battle with stage-four cancer intensifies, urging anyone who can assist with his treatment to reach out via direct message on Instagram.
