Northern CAN Backs US Airstrikes on Terrorists in Sokoto

The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern States, Rev. John Hayab, has expressed support for the recent United States airstrikes on suspected terrorists in Sokoto State, describing the action as a welcome intervention in Nigeria’s fight against insecurity.

Speaking in an interview with Saturday Sun, Hayab dismissed concerns that the US military action could exceed its mandate, insisting that the scale of the intervention was justified.

“We shouldn’t be afraid that the US might go overboard. After all, the terrorists have gone overboard,” he said.

He called for the sustained continuation of the military intervention until terrorists are completely eliminated from affected communities, noting that Nigerian government officials had confirmed that the operation was carried out in collaboration with the United States.

“We ask that the intervention continue unabated until the terrorists are completely wiped out of our communities,” Hayab stated.

According to him, extensive consultations and engagements have been ongoing between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the United States government since the announcement of the airstrikes by US President Donald Trump.

Hayab noted that Nigerians would welcome any form of assistance aimed at ending the persistent killings by bandits and terrorists across the country.

He further said that CAN believes President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration classifying all armed groups involved in the killing of innocent Nigerians as terrorists has begun to yield results.

“Our Association believes that Tinubu’s security emergency has started working. This collaboration should not be a one-off action but should continue until every terrorist is defeated and eliminated in Nigeria,” he added.

EFCC Arraigns Mompha’s Associate Over Alleged ₦206m Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Sarumi Samusudeen Babafemi, an associate of social media personality Ismaila Mustapha (Mompha), alongside three corporate entities, over an alleged ₦206 million fraud before the Lagos State Special Offences Court, Ikeja.

Babafemi — Managing Director and CEO of 606 Autos Limited, 606 Music Limited, and Splash Off Entertainment Limited — faces five counts of conspiracy, concealment, and transfer of proceeds of crime, allegedly committed between 2013 and 2018. The EFCC claims the offences involved large sums, including ₦37.6 million and ₦93 million transferred to third parties, with knowledge that the funds were proceeds of unlawful acts.

When the charges were read, Babafemi pleaded not guilty. His defence lawyer, SAN Kunle Adegoke, filed a bail application, which the court granted, ordering that Babafemi be released to his counsel upon signing an affidavit of undertaking to appear in court. The trial is now scheduled to commence on March 24, 2026.

The EFCC said Babafemi acted in concert with Mompha and other co-accused — Ridwan Momodu Allison (Osama) and Richard Ugbah, who are currently at large — to facilitate the alleged money laundering scheme. This latest prosecution comes as part of broader EFCC efforts to tackle financial crimes and fraud networks linked to high-profile figures in Nigeria.
