Northern Nigeria security summit to convene in Birnin Kebbi amid rising insecurity

In a bold move to tackle the escalating insecurity plaguing northern Nigeria, stakeholders from across the region will converge in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, on Monday, November 10, 2025, for a high-level security summit.

The 2025 Broadcast Media Security Summit, jointly organized by the Arewa Broadcast Media Practitioners Forum and the Kebbi State Government, is expected to serve as a strategic platform for dialogue, collaboration, and actionable solutions to the region’s deepening security crisis.

The summit will be chaired by two prominent figures: the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, and Lt. General Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau (Rtd), former Chief of Army Staff and ex-Minister of Interior. It will bring together northern governors, security experts, broadcasters, policymakers, and development partners.

Speaking ahead of the event, Alhaji Yelwa, Chairman of the Arewa Broadcast Media Practitioners Forum, emphasized the urgency of the summit.

“As insecurity continues to threaten peace, development, and stability across Nigeria—particularly in the North—this summit is conceived as a strategic intervention to address these challenges head-on,” Yelwa stated.

He noted that previous efforts to curb insecurity have produced limited and unsustainable results. The summit, he said, aims to reverse this trend by fostering trust, countering violent extremism, and supporting national security reforms through effective communication strategies.

“The devastating impact of insecurity on lives, livelihoods, and infrastructure demands a coordinated response. This summit will provide a robust platform for stakeholders committed to restoring peace and strengthening national cohesion,” Yelwa added.

The summit is expected to produce a comprehensive framework for media-driven security advocacy and policy alignment, reinforcing the role of broadcast media in shaping public perception and supporting peacebuilding efforts across the region.
