There was heavy security presence on the premises of the Osun State High Court on Wednesday as a suspected cultist, Rasheed Hammed, aka Oko’lu, appeared before an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court.
He was arraigned on 13 counts of conspiracy, armed robbery, arson and murder.
Oko’lu, who had been on the police wanted list for about five months, was arrested on Sunday around 4am in a hotel in Osogbo, Osun State.
More than two hours before the defendant arrived for his arraignment, some armed operatives from the Osun State Police Command were sighted on the premises of the court.
The suspect was led to the court by heavily armed men from the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Osun State Police Command.

Details of the charges against the defendant indicated that between February 13 and August 7, 2022, he allegedly killed two people, Hassan Adedeji and one Idowu, also known as Delta.
The defendant was also accused of shooting a police inspector, Gbenga Eke, with the intention to kill him, while he also allegedly set ablaze property that included cars, motorcycles and houses, belonging to two men, Kolade Jelili and Olayiwola Wakeel.
He was also accused of belonging to the Eiye confraternity and possessing locally-made guns.
Counsel for the defendant, Mr Taiwo Awokunle, was present in court.
The presiding magistrate, Dr Olusegun Ayilara, directed the prosecutor, Inspector Olusegun Eliza, to duplicate the case file and send copies to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
He remanded the defendant in the Ilesa Custodial Centre and adjourned the matter till October 7, 2022.
