NPA Chairman Adeyeye Alleges Opposition Behind Nigeria’s Insecurity, Backs Tinubu Measures

The Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Senator Adedayo Adeyeye, has alleged that the rising insecurity in Nigeria is being orchestrated by opposition elements aiming to undermine the Bola Tinubu administration. Adeyeye, however, expressed confidence that the President’s emergency security measures would successfully tackle the country’s security challenges.

The NPA boss made the comments while delivering a lecture titled “Mentorship: A Tool for Fostering Progressive Democracy” at the 2nd Faculty of Administration Week and Mentorship at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

Adeyeye stated: “The insecurity in this country is being sponsored and orchestrated by some group of people who want to destroy Tinubu’s government and are probably afraid of the president winning the 2027 election convincingly. But I can assure you that President Bola Tinubu is taking the situation seriously, and the emergency security programme he rolled out will solve this issue.”

He also faulted calls for a military takeover, stressing that Nigeria has endured the negative consequences of past military rule. “The worst democracy is better than the best dictatorship,” Adeyeye said, warning that advocates of military dictatorship have not experienced its harsh realities.

Acknowledging ongoing national challenges—including insecurity, unemployment, inflation, youth restiveness, poverty, and erosion of confidence in the judiciary—he noted that the Tinubu administration has recorded modest achievements worthy of recognition.

The Vice Chancellor of OAU, Professor Simeon Bamire, in his remarks, urged South-West governors to invest in legacy projects such as lecture theatres or hostels within the university campus that would bear the names of their states.

Meanwhile, APC chieftain in Ondo State, Olabode Omoyele, expressed confidence that the Tinubu-led administration will effectively address security challenges. He commended ongoing reforms across sectors and urged Nigerians to support the President and remain vigilant in their communities.

Omoyele added: “At this moment in our country, Mr President deserves our support and prayers as he is making efforts to end the ongoing insecurity challenges. Security is the responsibility of everyone, and I believe very soon this challenging period will be over.”
