NRC announces resumption date for Abuja-Kaduna train service
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that passenger train operations on the Abuja–Kaduna corridor will resume next week, following the completion of repairs and safety inspections on the damaged track.
The service was suspended after a derailment occurred on August 26, 2025.
Confirming the resumption, the NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, said the exact restart date would be disclosed soon.
He explained that the corporation had “worked tirelessly to ensure both the infrastructure and rolling stock are restored to the highest safety standards in line with global best practices.”

Unyimadu further revealed that the NRC has already refunded fares to 512 out of the 583 passengers who were onboard the affected train, while efforts are ongoing to settle the remaining refunds.
“As part of our commitment to passenger welfare, the NRC has refunded 512 passengers out of the 583 on board the affected train. Efforts are ongoing to reach and process refunds for the remaining passengers to ensure that no one is left behind,” he stated.
He added: “The NRC appreciates the patience and understanding of our esteemed passengers and assures the general public that their safety, comfort, and satisfaction remain our top priority. We also acknowledge the invaluable support of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, security agencies, the media, and all stakeholders during this period of recovery. Further details on the official resumption date and schedule will be communicated in the coming days.”
