NSA Nuhu Ribadu Refutes Viral Claims About Mother’s Death
Nigeria’s National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has debunked viral reports claiming his mother recently died, calling the story “false and misleading.” Ribadu clarified that his biological mother passed away 28 years ago, and the person who actually died on Monday, January 19, 2026, was Hajja Mamma Sulaiman Ribadu, his late uncle’s wife.
In a statement via his verified X account, Ribadu thanked friends, associates, and well-wishers for their messages of support while setting the record straight. He prayed for the deceased, asking Allah to forgive her shortcomings and grant her eternal rest.

The clarification highlights the dangers of viral misinformation in Nigeria, where false claims about the health or death of public figures often spread rapidly before verification. Experts urge social media users and journalists to confirm reports before sharing, especially when they involve prominent leaders.
Ribadu, who previously served as EFCC Chairman, emphasized that while the report about his mother was untrue, the loss within his extended family is real and deserving of prayers and condolences.
