The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested one Garuba Ashin of Iwala area in the Kaiama Local Government for allegedly stealing a goat.
He was said to be arrested while making attempt to steal some goats in the neighborhood.
His arrest is coming on the heels of the incessant goat and sheep theft in villages in Kwara North believed to be perpetrated by a cartel.
NSCDC Public Relations Officer in the State, Babawale Zaid Afolabi confirmed the development weekend in a statement, saying they acted on repeated reports and complaints by residents over missing of their domestic animals in the town.
“The intense surveillance being carried out paid off recently as one Garuba Ashin of Iwala Area in Kaiama was caught in the act while trying to steal goats belonging to Hossan Abubakar” Babawale narrated.
He said the suspect has been transferred to the NSCDC State Command in Ilorin while efforts are ongoing to round up other members of the gang.
“Investigations have revealed that these goat thieves are in a group and we are working round the clock to arrest other members of the group”, he noted
