Nurses, midwives finally end strike after new agreement with FG
The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has ended its week-long warning strike after reaching a fresh agreement with the Federal Government.
The decision came on Friday, following talks between the association’s National Executive Council (NEC) and key government officials, including the Ministers of Health, Labour and Employment.
A formal suspension notice, issued in Abuja on Saturday, was signed by NANNM National President, Mr Haruna Mamman, and National Secretary, Dr T.A. Shettima.
According to the notice, the NEC convened on August 2 to review the outcome of the negotiations. After carefully examining the signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and the agreed timelines for implementation, the council resolved to call off the strike.

The NEC commended the Federal Government for taking initial steps to address the union’s nine key demands. It also tasked the national leadership with closely monitoring the MoU’s execution and ensuring compliance with the agreed schedule.
State councils have been directed to mobilise members back to work immediately.
“NEC resolved that no member of NANNM, including interns and locum nurses, should be victimised for participating in the nationwide nurses’ strike,” the notice stated.
The NEC further thanked members for their unity and resilience during the industrial action, reaffirming the association’s dedication to safeguarding the welfare, dignity, and professional rights of nurses and midwives across the country.
