NURTW denies involvement in disruption of BCAN inauguration
The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has debunked allegations linking its newly elected President, Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya (aka MC Oluomo), to hoodlums who disrupted the inauguration of Bus Conductors Association of Nigeria (BCAN) at the Nigeria Union of Journalists secretariat in Abuja.
General Secretary of the union, Comrade Kayode Agbeyangi, said the union had no connection with BCAN and therefore could not have planned to disrupt its inauguration.
He stressed that the NURTW prides itself as a law-abiding organization committed to maintaining peace.
Regarding allegations that the hoodlums wore T-shirts with MC Oluomo’s image, the union noted that anyone seeking to tarnish his reputation could be behind the act.
The NURTW called on the police and security agencies to investigate and bring those responsible to justice.
Part of the union’s statement read, “We are in the season of politics and it is very possible for anybody who wants to tarnish the image of the union to print T-shirt and imprint the image of our president on it, all with the intention of giving a dog a bad name to hang it.
“We are in the season of politics. So, you can’t rule out things like that. We want to appeal to the police and other security agencies to step in and bring those behind it to book.”
Agbeyangi also urged newspapers and online platforms to verify their facts before publishing, criticizing the rush to publish without getting the NURTW’s side of the story.
He said, “It is very unfortunate that the report came out in papers and other platforms without input or reaction from our union.
“Both sides must have contributions in such situation. We appeal to (members of the) press to always do a thorough job and get all the sides in a story.”
