NURTW members reject Baruwa’s bid for reinstatement as president

NURTW members reject Baruwa’s bid for reinstatement as president

The Concerned Commercial Drivers, a group of commercial drivers within the union, have expressed disappointment and disillusionment with the actions of Alhaji Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa, the former president of the union trying to impose himself on the union.

Baruwa had at a press conference called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the union crisis and ensure his reinstatement as union president.

However, the Concerned Commercial Drivers led by Alhaji Fatai Aro and Comrade John Udie, Chairman and Secretary respectively strongly disagreed with Baruwa’s stance, viewing it as a selfish and misguided attempt to regain power through the back door after being rejected by members of the union

“We are shocked and dismayed by Alhaji Baruwa’s continued agitation for the presidency.

“His actions clearly demonstrated that he is pursuing the union’s presidency for his own personal gain, rather than the benefit of the union and its members,” the group stated.

The Concerned Commercial Drivers pointed out that during Alhaji Baruwa’s tenure as president, the union lost control of all six state councils in the South West due to lack of experience and arrogance.

All the state councils were subsequently taken over by the state governments and their agents, it stated.

In contrast with the experience the union went through under Baruwa, the current administration of the union under Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya is working to reunite the union and has already made progress in this regard, with the recent inauguration of the Osun State council, according to the group.

It said, “We cannot understand what Alhaji Baruwa hopes to achieve by returning to the presidency. Is he coming back to complete the destruction of the union he started?

“His leadership was marked by failure and division, and we will not support any attempt to revive his presidency.”

The drivers urged President Tinubu and other stakeholders to disregard Baruwa’s call for intervention and instead focus on supporting the current administration of Alhaji Akinsanya’s efforts towards rebuilding and strengthening the union.
