The Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has ordered the release of some people said to have been detained in some detention camps of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in the state.
He gave the directive when he visited three offices of the rested SARS located in Ekwulobia, Neni and Awkuzu.
The governor ordered the release of the detainees unconditionally because they were said to have been kept in the detention camps illegally.
Governor Obiano said after the visit, “the Commissioner of Police in the state has released everyone detained illegally, and everyone remanded by the order of the court will remain there until their cases are determined.”
Obiano had on Thursday sacked his senior security aide, James Nwafor, who is a former head of SARS in the state.
The governor has also promised to free all illegally detained persons and ensure that Nwafor accused of killing and maiming many was brought to book.
Obiano last week said he woulf inaugurate a panel that would receive public petitions on the activities of SARS in the state, adding that the panel would be headed by a retired chief judge.
