Ogun, Oyo, Kwara, four others face prolonged blackbout
Seven states may be plunged into a prolonged blackout from next month as the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has announced plans to disconnect its feeder from the national grid due to accumulated debts.
Indeed, the electricity distribution company said the non-payment of electricity bills by its customers was responsible for its inability to meet its financial obligations to the electricity value chain.
The IBEDC said in a statement on Wednesday that consumers under its coverage should not expect electricity from next month.
Consumers to be affected by the development are those in Kwara, Ogun, Osun, Oyo states.
Others are in parts of Kogi, Ekiti and Niger states.

A statement signed by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the company, Kingsley Achife, said the Disco would be out of operation next month if the consumers failed to pay up their current and outstanding bills.
Part of the statement read, “As a revenue collection arm of the electricity value chain, IBEDC sells and distributes electricity generated by the generation companies.
“However, the company is unable to meet its financial obligations to the electricity value chain due to poor payment and huge outstanding bills by customers.
“We urge our customers to note that failure to pay current and outstanding electricity bills may result in disruption of power to homes, communities, and businesses connected to our network.”
