Iwo, Osun State – The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has barred Lukman Mudashiru, a member of the House of Representatives, from his palace. The action comes amid concerns over the lawmaker’s alleged failure to engage with the palace and support the community’s heritage structures.

The monarch made the announcement in a statement shared via his official Facebook page on Friday. Mudashiru represents Ayedire/Iwo/Olaoluwa Federal Constituency and is a member of the Accord Party.

In the statement, Oba Akanbi emphasized the importance of respect and accountability for elected representatives within the district.

“The position of the Oluwo demands respect and accountability from elected representatives within the district. Oluwo is an entity. He is the traditional head of the town,” the statement read.

The monarch further highlighted the need for politicians to honour traditional authority:

“By virtue of these pedigrees, Oluwo deserves the most traditional honour in the district. If you are a politician representing any or all areas in the district, you owe Oluwo a stewardship explanation.”

Oba Akanbi also explained that office holders are expected to provide updates on their activities to the traditional leadership.

“Either directly or indirectly, you are representing the interests of this district. Traditionally, he heads the district, so also is the stewardship account from both elective and appointed political holders,” the statement added.

Reinforcing his position, the Oluwo declared that Mudashiru would no longer be allowed access to the palace, underscoring the traditional institution’s authority and the expectation of accountability from elected officials.

The move has generated reactions among residents and political watchers, with some supporting the monarch’s insistence on preserving cultural heritage, while others question the implications for local political relationships. Mudashiru has yet to issue a response regarding the ban.
