Omoku Youth Leader Beheaded, Assistant Killed in Suspected Cult Attack
Omoku town in Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA), Rivers State, was plunged into shock and mourning on Thursday evening after a violent attack by suspected cultists left two people dead, including Comrade Ifeanyi Azuazu, the President of the Omoku Youth Federation.
The attack occurred around 6:00 PM on February 5, 2026, at a popular drinking joint along Ogolo Street, off Palace Road, in the heart of Omoku. Eyewitnesses reported that about seven assailants arrived in two vehicles, immediately identifying their targets.
Upon spotting Comrade Azuazu, the gunmen reportedly ordered him into one of the vehicles. The youth leader’s personal aide, Chigozie Oluwu, attempted to intervene and was shot dead on the spot. The attackers then forcibly abducted Azuazu and fled the scene, leaving residents and business owners in panic.

Tragically, hopes for the youth leader’s safe rescue were dashed the following day when the ONELGA Security and Planning Advisory Committee (OSPAC) confirmed the discovery of his headless body in a forest in Omoku. OSPAC spokesperson Godnews Nkem explained that while Chigozie Oluwu was killed during the attack, Comrade Azuazu was taken alive but murdered by his captors.
“OSPAC operatives, working with local security networks, recovered the headless body of the Omoku Youth Federation President in a forest on Friday afternoon,” Nkem said, describing the killing as brutal and unfortunate. He urged residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands.
The Rivers State Police Command also confirmed the incident. CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, the Public Relations Officer, affirmed that the killings were cult-related, and that Commissioner of Police CP Olugbenga Adepoju has ordered a full-scale investigation to apprehend those responsible.
Residents of Omoku expressed deep fear and anger, describing the attack as another blow to peace in the community. Many called on the state government and security agencies to strengthen security measures to prevent further cult-related violence.
The incident has heightened tension in Omoku and surrounding communities, with residents demanding swift justice and decisive action to curb gang and cult violence in Rivers State.
