Ondo police nab two university students in alleged drug-laced rape case

The Ondo State Police Command has detained two students of Adekunle Ajasin University (AAUA), Akungba-Akoko, for the alleged conspiracy and rape of a fellow female student.

According to a statement issued Monday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, the incident occurred when the 20-year-old victim was invited to the home of her long-time friend, Queen Sodo, a 19-year-old university student.

The police investigation revealed that Sodo served the victim a drug-laced drink, causing her to lose consciousness. While the victim was incapacitated, Sodo allegedly summoned a male co-conspirator to carry out the assault, keeping watch during the act.

A neighbor reportedly intervened after hearing unusual noises, helping to save the victim. She was immediately taken to a hospital for medical treatment.

Both suspects confessed to their roles, aiding investigators in gathering crucial evidence, including the bottle containing the drug-laced drink, which has been submitted for toxicology examination. The suspects are currently in custody and will be transferred to the Gender Desk Office, Akure, for further discreet investigation and prosecution.

The PPRO urged parents to educate their children on the importance of caution in friendships and relationships, emphasizing that the police will continue to bring criminally inclined individuals to justice.
