One dies as vehicle rams into motorcycle in Lagos
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has said that a commercial motorcycle and a Volkswagen bus with registration number EKY 558 YG collided at the Bolade Intersection inward Oshodi along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, resulting in a serious injury to the rider and the death of a passenger.
This was disclosed in a statement made available to PUNCH Metro by the Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Adebayo Taofiq, on Sunday.
Taofiq noted that the passenger died instantly while the trapped motorcycle rider was rescued under the commercial bus by LASTMA officials.
According to preliminary investigations, a well-known commercial Volkswagen bus driver ran a red light, hit a moving commercial motorcycle carrying a passenger, and then continued driving at maximum speed.

Taofiq noted that the commercial bus driver was turned over to police officers from the Akinpelu Police Division, while the body of the deceased passenger and the rescued rider were removed by LASAMBUS staff.
The acting General Manager of LASTMA, Bakare Oki, visited the accident scene and issued a warning to commercial bus drivers to cease speeding and to always abide by the traffic laws that the State has implemented.
The statement partly reads, “Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) today disclosed that a passenger died and rider seriously injured as a reckless commercial Volkswagen bus (EKY 558 YG) driver rammed into a moving commercial motorcycle at Bolade Intersection inward Oshodi along Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Lagos.
“The Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed that the passenger died instantly while the trapped motorcycle rider was rescued under the commercial bus by Lastma Officials.
“Preliminary investigations revealed a notorious commercial Volkswagen bus driver who was on top speed after beating a traffic light drove recklessly and rammed into a moving commercial motorcycle with passengers at Bolade intersection inward Oshodi.
“LASTMA Durojaiye stated that while the corpse of the dead passenger and the rescued rider was moved away by LASAMBUS personnel, the driver of the commercial bus was handed over to Policemen from Akinpelu police Division by LASTMA officials.”
