Onoh Fires Back at Reno Omokri Over Comments on Sowore’s Court Proceedings
Denge Josef Onoh, former APC campaign spokesman in the South East and party chieftain, has responded to recent statements by political commentator Reno Omokri regarding the ongoing court proceedings involving Omoyele Sowore, publisher of SaharaReporters and former presidential candidate.
In his response, Onoh described Omokri’s remarks as misleading and unnecessarily politicised, stressing that Sowore’s court case is a legal matter that should not be trivialised or turned into a platform for social media debates. He warned that public commentary that pre-judges court proceedings could undermine confidence in Nigeria’s judicial system.

According to Onoh, while freedom of expression is important, it should not be used to influence ongoing judicial processes or distort the facts of the case. He emphasised that the rule of law must prevail, and no individual—regardless of political affiliation or activism—is above the law.
The reaction comes after Omokri made comments suggesting political implications from Sowore’s trial, sparking renewed debate across social and political circles. Onoh urged commentators and political actors to exercise restraint, saying that judicial matters must be handled within the courts, not on social media.
Observers note that the exchange between Denge Josef Onoh and Reno Omokri highlights the deep political and ideological divisions that often accompany high-profile court cases in Nigeria.
