Ooni, Sultan, Governor Adeleke Flag Off Minaret University in Osun State

Osun State is set to witness a historic moment in higher education as the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, and Governor Ademola Adeleke will lead the inauguration of Minaret University, Ikirun. The ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, February 5, 2026, at the university’s temporary campus in Ikirun, Osun State.

The university, owned by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at of Nigeria, was among the latest private universities licensed by the Federal Government and the National Universities Commission (NUC) in 2025, marking a major step in expanding access to quality tertiary education in Nigeria.

During the inauguration, the pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdul Rahman Abdullah, will be formally presented to the academic community, accompanied by Barrister Alatoye Azeez Folorunso, the Amir of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at in Nigeria. The event is expected to attract dignitaries, educators, and stakeholders from across the country.

Minaret University will offer a wide array of undergraduate programs, including Data Science, Cybersecurity, Business Administration, and Logistics & Supply Chain Management, designed to equip students with practical skills for both national development and global competitiveness. As part of its launch, the university will also release its first publication on global peace, reflecting its commitment to promoting education, social harmony, and intellectual growth.

The presence of Nigeria’s leading traditional rulers and political leaders highlights the significance of this milestone not only for Osun State but also for the broader educational landscape in Nigeria, emphasizing the role of private and faith-based institutions in driving academic excellence.
