Opposition Coalition Emerges as 12 Parties Seek to Unseat Osun Government
With a few months to the Osun State governorship election, no fewer than twelve political parties have agreed to adopt a single consensus candidate in a strategic move to dislodge the incumbent administration from power.
The decision was reached at a high-level meeting held over the weekend at Halatria Hotel and Towers, Osogbo, where leaders of the participating parties resolved to set aside individual ambitions and present a united opposition front in the forthcoming poll.
According to the parties, the alliance is aimed at pooling political strength, resources and grassroots influence behind one candidate who stands a stronger chance of emerging victorious at the election.

“This collaboration is driven by the collective interest of the people of Osun State and the need to offer a credible alternative through a formidable and united platform,” the communiqué stated.
Political parties represented at the meeting include the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Action Democratic Party (ADP), Labour Party (LP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and the Young Progressives Party (YPP), alongside other smaller parties.
The communiqué, jointly signed by the chairmen of the participating parties, was made available to journalists shortly after the meeting.
The development comes amid increasing political realignments ahead of the Osun governorship race, as opposition parties explore alliances and consensus arrangements to counter the dominance of larger political parties in the state. Political observers note that the success of the coalition will largely depend on its ability to agree on a widely acceptable candidate and maintain unity through the electioneering period.
