Senator Adams Oshiomhole
Oshiomhole Calls Opposition Leaders APC’s ‘Campaign Tools’
Former Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has said internal divisions and public disagreements among leading opposition politicians ahead of the 2027 general election are indirectly strengthening the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi are unknowingly assisting the APC’s political narrative.
Oshiomhole made the remarks during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he analysed early political alignments and tensions shaping the 2027 presidential race.
The senator said the repeated exchanges among opposition leaders show a lack of coordination and unity, arguing that such public disputes make it difficult for them to present a credible alternative to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC. He noted that instead of building a unified platform, opposition figures are increasingly engaged in personal and regional criticisms that weaken their collective political strength.
Oshiomhole further argued that the ongoing rivalry within opposition ranks is inadvertently benefiting the APC by keeping their divisions in the public space. He said the opposition appears more focused on attacking one another than on presenting Nigerians with a clear alternative vision for governance.

He directly referenced the exchanges among key political actors, saying Atiku Abubakar has been critical of Peter Obi, while Obi and Amaechi have also been involved in disagreements over national political influence and structure. According to him, these public disputes expose the fragility of opposition coalitions ahead of 2027.
The former APC national chairman added that opposition leaders are unintentionally serving as “campaign tools” for the ruling party due to their inability to maintain unity. He insisted that such internal conflicts help the APC dominate political conversations without much effort.
Oshiomhole also challenged opposition figures to clearly state their policy positions ahead of the 2027 election, especially on major reforms introduced by the current administration. He questioned whether they would reverse policies such as fuel subsidy removal, tax restructuring, and the student loan programme, arguing that Nigerians deserve clarity on alternative economic plans.
According to him, without clear policy alternatives, opposition coalitions risk appearing as groups united only by ambition rather than ideology or governance direction.
Political realignments ahead of the 2027 election continue to evolve, with major figures expected to influence the contest including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and Rotimi Amaechi. Reports suggest that attempts at coalition building have faced challenges due to disagreements and shifting political interests among key players.
Meanwhile, the ruling APC has reportedly strengthened its internal processes ahead of the election cycle, including waiving certain screening procedures for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential primary, according to party officials.
As the political atmosphere builds toward 2027, analysts say the contest is becoming increasingly competitive but fragmented, with alliances still fluid and no single opposition bloc firmly established.
Oshiomhole’s comments have since generated debate across political circles, with supporters describing them as strategic analysis, while critics view them as early political messaging from within the ruling party.
Neither the opposition figures mentioned nor the APC leadership has officially responded to the remarks as of press time.
