Osiele–Camp Road in Abeokuta cries for urgent government attention as residents decry neglect
October 7, 2025 | Abeokuta, Ogun State
Residents, students, and motorists have raised alarm over the worsening condition of the Osiele–Camp Road in Abeokuta, Ogun State, describing it as a neglected lifeline that urgently needs government intervention.
Ambassador Mallam Ibrahim Agunbiade, a Saudi Arabia–based cleric and advocate of good governance, made the call in a statement on Tuesday, lamenting the deplorable state of the road which connects several major communities, educational institutions, and government establishments within the state capital.
Agunbiade, also known as Taalib Jami’ei of Islamic Propagation Rabwa, said a journey that should take less than an hour now takes more than two and a half hours due to the poor condition of the road.
“Every day, students, staff, residents, and travellers risk their lives navigating this death trap of a road. Vehicles break down frequently, accidents occur regularly, and the stress and delay it causes are unbearable,” he said.
The cleric appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun to prioritize the rehabilitation of the road, stressing that it plays a vital role in education, healthcare, and security within Abeokuta.
“This road is more than just a passage; it is a lifeline for education, health, and security operations within Abeokuta and its environs. Let urgent attention be given to make it safe and motorable for all,” he added.
The Osiele–Camp Road serves as a major link to the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), various residential areas, hospitals, and the Ogun State Police Headquarters. Despite its importance, residents say it has suffered years of neglect without visible government repair efforts.
Commuters are now urging both state and federal authorities to act swiftly to prevent further accidents and hardship on the road.
