Osimhen Faces Backlash After On-Field Row With Ademola Lookman in AFCON 2025 Win
Nigerian football fans have slammed Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen for his angry confrontation with teammate Ademola Lookman during Monday’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 round of 16 clash against Mozambique, PlatinumPost reports.
The incident occurred in the 63rd minute after Lookman missed a chance while Osimhen was in an open position. Despite having already assisted Osimhen twice—once directly and another via Akor Adams—Lookman became the target of Osimhen’s visible frustration.
In footage circulating online, Osimhen is seen pulling away from captain Wilfred Ndidi, pointing at Lookman, and shouting in pidgin English, “No try am again,” meaning “do not try that again.” Shortly afterward, Osimhen requested a substitution and was booed by fans as Moses Simon replaced him.
The outburst sparked widespread criticism on social media platform X, with fans questioning the striker’s attitude despite Nigeria’s dominant 4-0 performance. Influencer Emma Ik Umeh (@emmaikumeh) commented, “Victor Osimhen had a quarrel with his teammate Lookman… he should f**k off with this nonsense attitude.”
