Osun APC supporters rally behind Oyebamiji ahead of 2026 governorship race
Supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State have declared their backing for the Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Asiwaju Munirudeen Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, as their preferred candidate for the 2026 governorship election.
The endorsement signals a shift in the party’s internal dynamics, with many loyalists appearing to move away from former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, who has long been considered the party’s leading figure in the state.
On Tuesday, APC members staged a large-scale solidarity walk in Osogbo to show support for Oyebamiji and reaffirm their loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The event, tagged “Osun Unity Walk for AMBO and Tinubu,” began at the Osogbo City Stadium and passed through key areas including Ayetoro, Igbona, Olonkoro, Old Garage, Orisunbare, Ola-Iya, Fakunle, and Ogo-Oluwa, before concluding at the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Office.
Participants, including party leaders, youths, and women, sang solidarity songs and waved party flags, expressing confidence in Oyebamiji’s leadership and his ability to secure victory for the APC in the 2026 polls.

Former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Timothy Owoeye, described the walk as a demonstration of unity and strength within the party. “Asiwaju Oyebamiji stands out as a competent, tested and trusted aspirant with a track record of performance,” he said.
Also speaking, Adebayo Adeleke, a former commissioner under Oyetola’s administration, said the turnout reflected strong grassroots support for Oyebamiji ahead of the APC primary scheduled for December 13. “He is more acceptable, a gentleman, knowledgeable and a financial expert. He is the one that can strengthen the economic situation of Osun State,” Adeleke stated.
Kehinde Ayantunji, a special adviser to former Governor Oyetola, commended President Tinubu, Chief Bisi Akande, and Oyetola for their continued efforts in strengthening the APC since 2022. He said their contributions had helped rebuild public trust and foster unity within the party.
Oyebamiji, a former Commissioner for Finance in Osun State, has been gaining momentum among party members, with many describing him as a bridge between the older and younger generation of APC leaders. His growing popularity is seen as a key factor in shaping the party’s direction ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
