Osun speaker confronts policemen extorting money from young people at checkpoint
The Speaker of the Osun state House of Assembly, Wale Egbedun, has stopped some policemen in Osun from extorting money from some young persons at a checkpoint in the state.
NPO Reports learnt that Egbedun was traveling on the same road when his convoy stumbled on a passenger bus with most of the occupants being young people.
Egbedun had reportedly stopped to make inquiries from the young passengers who informed him that the policemen had forced them to transfer money from their accounts.

The Osun state speaker thereafter insisted the money collected must be returned immediately.
A video of the scene seen by the NPO Reports showed Egbedun telling his aides to record the videos of the extorting policemen.
“Iru radarada wo niyen?” “What kind of rubbish is that)” the speaker was heard shouting.
While being recorded, some of the policemen tried to cover their faces to avoid being identified.
The police command in Osun could not be reached at the time of filing this report for comment.
Extortion is a major source of image problem for the police in the country. The Force had dismissed many in the past over extortion.
