Otedola donates N4 Billion to Augustine University, awards N10 million to physically-challenged graduate

The announcement was made during the university’s 7th Convocation Ceremony held over the weekend, where Otedola, who also serves as the Chancellor of the institution, reaffirmed his dedication to enhancing the university’s infrastructure.

Otedola revealed that the new engineering block, whose construction has faced delays due to inflation, is now scheduled for completion by the 2026 convocation. To kickstart the project, he presented a cheque of N500 million to the contractor, having signed the construction contract earlier that day.

“I hereby announce my donation to the university of the Electronics Engineering block at the cost of N4 billion,” Otedola declared, noting that the building’s cost had escalated due to inflation. He expressed satisfaction with the utilization of the first phase of the Faculty of Engineering, named after his mother, Dame Doja Otedola, which he previously donated at an estimated cost of N2 billion.

In a heartwarming moment, Otedola also awarded a N10 million cash gift to Emmanuel Opeoluwa, a physically-challenged graduating student from the Department of Philosophy, in recognition of his resilience and academic achievement.

Further enriching the academic community, Otedola donated 1,000 copies of his internationally acclaimed best-selling book, Making It Big, to students, faculty, and university management. “This is why I am presenting to each of you today a copy of my book,” he said, encouraging graduates to embrace the challenges ahead with courage and purpose.

Addressing the graduating class, Otedola praised their perseverance and academic accomplishments, urging them to uphold the values of integrity, excellence, and compassion instilled by the university.

“Be global in outlook but local in impact; be courageous in conviction but humble in service,” he advised. “Let your actions reflect the character and principles instilled in you by this great institution.”

The convocation ceremony celebrated students who received First Degrees, Diplomas, and various academic awards, marking a significant milestone in their educational journey.
