Reactions as Benue varsity lecturer assaults student during class (Video)
A viral video showing a lecturer, Mr. Ichor Tersagh, at the Benue State University (BSU) in Makurdi, physically assaulting a young man has sparked outrage on social media.
According to sources, Mr. Ichor Tersagh is a visiting lecturer at Benue State University (BSU) from the Department of Microbiology at Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi.
From the video obtained by GWG.ng online, Tersagh was seen grabbing the man by the collar, slapping and striking the student on the head with his fist, repeatedly.
A student who pleaded anonymity revealed that a group of students, including a 100-level student, accidentally walked into Mr. Tersagh’s lecture room, not realizing that a class was already underway.
The student said, “We 300 level students were having a lecture with the man – the lawless lecturer and our 100 level students were supposed to have a lecture at the same venue.
“Normally, our class was to last for two hours, from 10 am to 12 am. It seems those who produced the timetable made a mistake because the 100 level students were also supposed to have a class by 11am at the same venue.
“To them, the lecture theater should be free, so they were trooping in trying to get a space not knowing that a lecturer was still in class. That was how this man asked the young student to come back and started assaulting him physically.”

However, others claim that the victim of the assault was not a student but a hawker. Whatever, those who reacted said that whether student or hawker that the victim should not have been so assaulted.
The action of the lecturer has since sparked condemnation online. See some reactions from netizens on X:
@peculiarpat1 said, “If this young man decides to fight for his right instantly, you will see some people start shouting that he doesn’t have respect. How on earth could a lecturer shamefully assault another adult in this manner?”
@musty said, “People went through all these and survived, in fact it made us who we are today.”
@SamuelIse3 reacted, “What is this nonsense, if the boy reacts now some people will blame him, what kind of treatment is this for God sake.
@sp_OJOAGBA said, “That boy wasn’t a student but one of those guys that hawk around school premises. This came into the class to sell biro while the prof Tersagh Ichor was lecturing, you can fact check my info.”
@PeterPentec replied @sp_OJOAGBA, “And? How does this justify such a brutal attack? If he interrupted the class you ask him to leave or have campus security escort him out. If that boy sues the prof you can be sure he’ll walk home with good compensation..”
@Stancherrie replied, “Even at that. He was very wrong to have physically attacked the young man that way.”
@GlobalScholar01 replied, “The so-called lecturer openly visiting violence and bodily harm on a vulnerable, helpless youth. He is a disgrace to the teaching profession and his age, without the value of self control.”
