Outrage at UniAbuja as Students Chase Colleague Over Harassment Claim
Tension erupted at the University of Abuja (UniAbuja) on Tuesday after a group of students allegedly chased a male classmate over claims of inappropriate physical contact with a fellow student.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred within one of the academic areas of the campus when accusations surfaced that the student had touched a female colleague inappropriately, sparking outrage among other students nearby. The situation quickly escalated as some students confronted the accused, forcing him to flee the area to avoid being attacked.

Videos of the incident later circulated on social media, showing students shouting and running, as the accused student was pursued across part of the campus. The footage triggered widespread reactions online, with many calling for proper investigation rather than mob action.
University authorities and security personnel were said to have intervened to restore calm and prevent further breakdown of order. As of the time of filing this report, the management of the University of Abuja had not released an official statement on the incident.
Students, however, called on the university administration to thoroughly investigate the allegation, ensure justice for all parties involved, and strengthen measures against sexual misconduct on campus.
The incident has reignited conversations around student safety, sexual harassment awareness, and the need for clear reporting channels within Nigerian tertiary institutions.
