A passengers train travelling along the Warri-Itakpe standard gauge rail line has been reportedly razed by fire, causing panic among those on board.
The incident was said to have occurred on Tuesday evening.
Already, a video is trending on multiple social media platforms, revealing some workers of the Nigerian Railway Corporation struggling to put out the fire, using leaves cut from nearby tree branches and blankets, owing to non-availability of fire extinguishers on board the coaches.
The train which appeared to be in the middle of the lonely rail track is eliciting condemnable reactions from Nigerians on social media.
The NRC workers on board had to hurriedly improvise to contain the fire.
The Deputy Director, Public Relations at the corporation, Mahmood Yakub, said an investigation was ongoing to unravel the cause of the fire.
“Our managing director will be addressing the media on the cause of the fire before the close of Wednesday (today), but the investigation is ongoing to know what caused the fire on one of the Warri-Itakpe coaches,” he said.
It was however learnt that the fire did not gain access to the coach and as a result, no life was affected as only the rubber demarcating two coaches was affected.
But the NRC MD Fidet Okhiria said in his reaction to newstrends enquiry that the viral video was of incident that happened last year.
