Pastor Chris Okafor Faces N1 Billion Lawsuit from Nollywood Actress Doris Ogala

Lagos-based Nollywood actress and Actors Guild of Nigeria member, Doris Ogala, has formally demanded N1 billion in aggravated damages from Pastor Chris Okafor, founder of Grace Nation Liberation City, over an alleged breach of promise to marry.

The demand, dated December 16, 2025, was issued through her lawyers, Synergy Law Partners, in a letter addressed to Pastor Okafor’s Ojodu Berger residence, warning of imminent legal action should the cleric fail to respond within 21 days.

According to the letter, Ogala alleged that Pastor Okafor made a “clear, consistent and unequivocal” promise to marry her, which formed the basis of a personal relationship that began in 2017. The relationship reportedly started during a period when the actress was seeking pastoral guidance while experiencing emotional distress.

Her lawyers stated that the alleged promise was reinforced by conduct, including introductions to Okafor’s family and appearances at family events. They claimed that photographs, videos, WhatsApp messages, and banking records exist to substantiate Ogala’s position, establishing a legitimate expectation of marriage.

Ogala further alleged that she relied on the promise to her detriment, including exiting a troubled marriage, based on assurances of marital commitment and security. She also claimed significant financial loss, asserting that she entrusted Pastor Okafor with N45 million in a single transaction and granted him access to her financial affairs in good faith.

The dispute escalated after Pastor Okafor reportedly announced his engagement to another woman, an act Ogala’s lawyers described as a repudiation of the alleged promise, causing emotional and reputational harm. They also cited public scrutiny, online harassment, and victim-shaming, which they attributed to the fallout from the cleric’s actions.

Additionally, the letter alleged that Pastor Okafor was responsible for the unauthorised circulation of private photographs, an accusation the cleric has yet to address publicly.

While acknowledging that marriage cannot be forced, Ogala’s lawyers argued that Nigerian law provides remedies for breach of promise and aggravated harm, forming the basis for their N1 billion demand.

They therefore demanded N1 billion as general and aggravated damages, citing reputational injury, emotional distress, and the public nature of the alleged breach. The lawyers gave Pastor Okafor 21 days to pay the demanded sum, warning that failure to do so would result in a suit before a court of competent jurisdiction.

Efforts to reach Pastor Okafor and his legal team for comments were unsuccessful at press time.
