PDP begins lobby for return of Peter Obi, others to party

The Anambra Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has pleaded with Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, to return to the party.

Obi defected to the Labour Party when he felt he could not achieve his presidential ambition within the PDP fold.

The PDP issued the request during an enlarged meeting of the State Executive Committee (SEC) in Awka on Thursday to examine the party’s state and set a course for the future.

The statement, written by Chidi Chidebe, Chairman of the PDP in Anambra, stated that partnerships with philosophically incompatible political organisations disguised as coalitions were unlikely to succeed.

“The committee extends an open invitation to all aggrieved and former members of the PDP in Anambra, particularly our revered former governor, Mr Peter Obi, to return home and reunite with the now rejuvenated and restructured PDP.

“We will gladly welcome our brothers and sisters back to join us in the collective quest for a better Nigeria,” he said.

He urged Anambra voters to support Mr Jude Ezenwafor and his running companion, Mr Francis Okeke, in the upcoming election while also urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a fair, transparent, and unbiased voting process.

“We call on the good people of Anambra to remain steadfast in their historic support for the PDP and to come out en masse to vote for our candidates,” he told reporters.

He announced Chief Clems Ezike’s unanimous nomination to the empty position of National Ex-Officio from Anambra.

He encouraged the Southeast Zonal Executive Committee, led by Chief Ali Odefa, to acknowledge and report the situation to the national secretariat.

He praised the party leadership for a successful National Executive Committee meeting on May 27 and expressed satisfaction with the framework for resolving the internal problem.
