PDP crisis: Wike, Makinde, Ortom, Ikpeazu head for Spain

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and three other governors in his camp have travelled out of the country together again; this time, Spain is their destination.

The four governors including those of Oyo, Abia and Benue have gone to Spain to strengthening forces and interests over the 2023 presidential election as the divisions in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lingers.

They reportedly jetted out Friday night after Wike’s latest outburst in Port Harcourt on his camp’s anger against the party’s National Chairman, Senator Iyorcha Ayu, who he insisted must resign for peace to return to the party.

Wike was spotted with Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and Samuel Ortom (Benue) at the Port Harcourt International Airport while boarding a flight to Madrid, Spain

A party chieftain confirmed, “Yes, it is true. They’ve left for Spain but I can’t say the reason for the trip.”

Wike said Friday morning that should he and four other governors in his camp leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the party would lose the 2023 election.

He spoke during a live media chat at the state government house in Port Harcourt.

He said that without the participation of himself, Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State in the presidential campaign of Atiku Abubakar, the PDP would find it difficult to win the election.

Wike insisted that no meaningful progress would be made with regard to the crisis as long as Iyorchia Ayu continues to remain the party’s national chairman.

He said, “Those supporting Ayu are political hypocrites, taking the crumbs from the table after the master has eaten. Zone the chairmanship to anywhere in the South.”
