Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu
Former Governor of Niger State, Dr Babangida Aliyu, says the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has agreed to re-zone the presidency to the northern region for the 2023 election.
Aliyu disclosed this on Friday when the Atiku Support Organisation visited him in Minna, expressing confidence in the success of the group.
He said, “We have agreed to rezone to the North as requested by others.”
This position runs contrary to the position of the southern governors who have asked that the presidency should go to the South.
The South-East has insisted on the region producing the next president of Nigeria in the interest of fairness and equity.
Aliyu added that the Atiku support group had done well by going round every nook and cranny of the country to ensure emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the party’s flagbearer and elected President of Nigeria come 2023.
The National Coordinator of the group, Dr Victor Moses, thanked the former governor for his continued support for Atiku Abubakar even as 2023 approaches.
