PDP secretariat still sealed despite Tinubu’s order

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has yet to unseal the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 48 hours after President Bola Tinubu ordered the reopening.

Chronicle NG gathered that the PDP National Secretariat at Wadata Plaza in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, around 11 a.m. on Wednesday, both entrances remained sealed.

Staff members and private security personnel were observed loitering around the premises, unable to enter the facility.

On Monday, around 2:06 p.m., the FCTA taskforce sealed multiple properties, including the PDP National Secretariat in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, for unpaid ground rent. The FCTA has previously revealed steps to repossess 4,794 properties revoked for defaulting on ground rent payments spanning 10 to 43 years for ₦6.96 billion.

In response to the action, PDP Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum denounced the Federal Government’s conduct as irresponsible during a National Caucus meeting in Abuja the same day.

Meanwhile, Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, defended the operation, claiming that it was legitimate and not politically motivated.

Concerned about the consequences, the president ordered on Monday that the PDP National Secretariat and other impacted facilities be reopened and granted a 14-day grace time to pay overdue bills.

Despite the President’s directive, the PDP office remains sealed. However, a source within the party revealed that efforts are currently underway to resolve the issue and reopen the office.
