(Photos) Finally, Buhari opens ultra-modern Lagos-Ibadan railway for full operation today

History will be made today Thursday June 10, 2021 as President Muhammadu Buhari officially opens for full commercial use the double-line standard gauge Lagos-Ibadan railway with all its modern facilities.

After a series of inspections, Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, on Wednesday June 9 rounded off his monthly monitoring visits to the project site and a ride on the train with the ministry top officials and technical team of the Nigerian Railway Corporation led by its managing Director, Fidet Okhiria.

The inspection tour of the terminals and sub-stations along the 156km route, preparatory for the big event started at the Ebute-Meta Apapa main complex/terminal where work has been completed before heading for the Asiwaju Bola Tinubu Terminal.

At the Apapa port, event planners were seen putting finishing touches ahead of the commissioning and the minister expressed satisfaction with the level of work done.

Residents of adjourning communities along the stretch from Lagos to Abeokuta obviously excited waved to Amaechi and the team during the train ride.

The inspection team stopped at every railway station, inspecting the terminal, underpasses and overpasses.

Built by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation at a cost of $1.5 billion, the double-track standard gauge has 10 sub-stations between Lagos and Ibadan with modern coaches already procured by the government.
