The Arrestted Clerics

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ondo State have arrested two Islamic clerics over allegations of torturing Quranic pupils at religious schools in Owo Local Government Area.
The incident reportedly began after one of the children returned home with a mobile phone and could not explain its possession. Both boys were then punished in a manner that violates the Child Rights Act and Ondo State child protection laws, prompting intervention by the NSCDC following a report from a concerned teacher and child-rights group.
During preliminary investigations, the suspects confessed to the abuse and are expected to be charged in court for assault and child abuse. The NSCDC described the acts as “unlawful, cruel, and unacceptable” and urged religious instructors and parents to refrain from using violent disciplinary methods.
Commandant Oluyemi Joshua Ibiloye, NSCDC State Commandant, called on the public to report cases of child abuse immediately to prevent further harm. Authorities have assured that the protection of minors in religious and educational institutions remains a top priority.
